Church closed following dispute

KOCHI: The Elamkulam St. Gregoriose Orthodox Church, under the Ernakulam St. Mary's Orthodox Church, was closed by Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish on Sunday following a dispute between the feuding factions of the Orthodox Church. The dispute was over the announcement made by Metropolitan Zacharia Mar Anthoniose, declaring a parish and appointing a vicar under the Gregoriose Orthodox Church, Elamkulam.
However, as the announcement was made, a group of people protested saying that it could not be made without the knowledge of the parish assembly. As the dispute continued, the police arrived and the Collector also intervened. As no truce could be arrived, the Collector decided to close down the church.
