Kalotsavam torch lit

KOCHI: The festival torch of the 46th Kerala State Schools Kalotsavam was lit at the compound of the organising committee office at St. Albert's Higher Secondary School here by film actor Mukesh on Monday afternoon.

The torch, lit from the memorials of the cultural personalities in the district, was received at the organising committee office by V. Sanu, Deputy Director (Education) and general secretary of the organising committee. The torch was handed over to Mr. Mukesh by K.J. Maxi, Corporation Education Standing Committee chairperson and film actor Vijayakumar.

The flames were lit from the memorials of the late singer Mehaboob at Mattancherry, writer C.J. Thomas and poet Mary Beninja at Koothattukulam, Kesari Balakrishna Pillai at North Paravur and Changampuzha Krishna Pillai at Edappally.

The signature film for the festival was also released at the function by Mr. Mukesh.

The Gold Cup given to the district winning the highest points in the festival will arrive from Palakkad, last year's winners on Tuesday. The cup will be received at the border of the district at Karukutty at 10 a.m.
