Book on Jayan
Kerala - Kochi
Reminiscing about Jayan and his ways
Decades after his untimely death in a freak helicopter accident during the shooting of a film in 1980, the image of Jayan, the action hero of Malayalam cinema, continues to remain popular. But the image that gained popularity during the past few years was not that of a heartthrob of the masses. It was one that mocked the late action hero. Students mimicked Jayan at the mimicry competitions and dressed to imitate the actor at fancy dress competitions. Jokes about the actor's stylised dialogues were circulated on the Internet and through SMSs.
And now, the actor's biography, 'Jayante Katha,' written by Joshi George, has been brought out in the form of a magazine. "The format was chosen to attract the people," says Mr. George.
The story of Jayan was first serialised in a Malayalam cinema magazine in 2001. Mr. George has managed to reconstruct the life of Jayan, whose real name was Krishnan Nair.
As the book is targeted at the masses, the language and presentation have been made to appeal to them.
Many photographs and stills from the films in which Jayan had acted have been included in the magazine.
