Producers to get copyright for films

An attempt to resist video piracy
KOCHI: The Kerala Film Producers' Association has decided to get copyright registration for films to resist video piracy and related problems. With this, the producers will become copyright owners of their films.
The decision was taken at a general body meeting of the association here on Thursday. President of the association K.L. Jaleel, known as Milan Jaleel, presided over the meeting.
A delegation representing all sections of the Malayalam film industry will meet authorities in the Government on July 5, demanding stringent action to curb video piracy.
Representatives of the producers' association; the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce and Industry; the Kerala Film Distributors' Association; the Kerala Film Exhibitors' Association; the Kerala Cine Exhibitors' Federation; the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes; and the Malayalam Cine Technicians Association will be in the delegation.
They will inform the new Government of the issues faced by the industry owing to video piracy and demand that a special wing be formed to deal with the issue.
Producers honoured
The association honoured six veteran producers for their contributions to Malayalam cinema.
K.J. Joseph, Cherupushpam Films; N.P. Abu, Priya Films; V. Rajan, Girish Pictures; Premprakash, Prakash Movie Tone; J.J. Kuttikkadu; and Sherief Kottarakkara were presented ponnadas and mementoes.
Mr. Jaleel presided over the function.
N. Krishnakumar, also known as Kireedom Unni, secretary of the association, welcomed the audience.
Siyad Kokker, Sasi Ayyanchira, Kalliyur Sasi, Murali Madavan Nair, Ramachandra Menon and P.P. Satheesh Kumar offered felicitations.
Children of the members of the association who had performed well in CBSE/SSLC public examinations were felicitated. Roopesh D. Panikker, Ankitha Ann Antony, Silpa M.V., Sainu Elizabeth and Sarada S. were presented cash awards and gold medals by the veteran producers who were honoured.
Yousefali Kecheri, who was also to be honoured, was not present.
